| NFdL man accused of trying to strangle ex-girlfriend Thu, 01 May 2008 18:04:00 CST A 32-year-old North Fond du Lac man is the first person charged in Fond du Lac County under a recently enacted strangulation and suffocation statute. Andrew M. Pierce, W6369 Oakwood Drive, Apt. 17, is accused of going into his ex-girlfriends home, choking her, holding a knife to her neck and threatening to kill her during the early morning hours of Wednesday, April 30, according to the criminal complaint. Pierce accused the woman of sexual infidelity and told her he was going to cut her into pieces, take her body away in his van and dispose of it, according to the complaint. At one point, he put one hand around her throat and another over her mouth until the woman said she couldnt breath and feared she would pass out. Pierce told police he left the home after a car pulled up, according to the complaint. Pierce was charged Thursday with first-degree reckless endangerment-domestic abuse and strangulation and suffocation-domestic abuse. If convicted, he faces up to 18 years in prison. It was the first time in Fond du Lac County that the new felony strangulation charge enacted into law earlier this year was filed against an individual, said Assistant District Attorney Devra Ayala. A $10,000 cash bail was ordered for Pierce, who remained in custody at the Fond du Lac County Jail Thursday afternoon. |
