| Dodge County joins states ranks of federal disaster areas Wed, 18 Jun 2008 16:09:00 CST JUNEAU Dodge County is among the latest counties to declared federal disaster areas in the wake of the recent flooding. Gov. Jim Doyle announced Wednesday afternoon that the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has declared a state of disaster for Dodge County along with Green, Washington, Waukesha and Winnebago counties, bringing the number of Wisconsin counties where individual assistance is available to 12, according to a press release. Dodge County Emergency Management Director Joe Meagher said residents would still need to register with FEMA even though they have registered with the county through the countys Report Damage link on the county Web site. As we continue to assess the extensive damage across our state from severe weather and record rains and flooding, it is clear that we need to get assistance to families and businesses in these areas as quickly as possible, Gov. Doyle said in a press release. We are pleased FEMA continues to work diligently to assess the remaining counties that have been devastated by severe weather. FEMAs disaster declarations make federal money available for individual assistance, such as home repair and temporary housing costs. FEMA has already provided nearly $38,000 to flood victims in declared counties. Those living in counties declared a state of disaster can apply for individual assistance by calling 1-800-621-FEMA or online at www.fema.gov. Meagher said the county continues to recover from last weeks drenching, noting that lakes and rivers from north to south in the county have reached their crest and continue to recede. Authorities in the city of Beaver Dam continue to report significant flooding in the downtown area and around Beaver Dam Lake affecting around 25 to 30 homes, Meagher said. Meagher reminds residents that several roads in Dodge County remain closed and that citizens should avoid driving on the marked roads due to high water levels and safety hazards. The Sheriffs Department is continuing its efforts to ticket motorists that drive around, tamper, or move barricades, Meagher said. Dodge County Emergency Management continues to operate the Emergency Operations Center gathering damage assessment and assisting with residents questions. Main hours of operation of the EOC are 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 pm. The 24-hour phone line for assistance is 386-4060. For up to date information on road closures check out www.co.dodge.wi.us |

| Dodge County hopes for FEMA help by end of week Wed, 18 Jun 2008 10:20:00 CST JUNEAU Dodge County officials should know by the end of the week whether or not a presidential declaration of disaster will be made. Dodge County Emergency Management Director Joe Meagher said FEMA officials have indicated that Dodge County damage totals are very much in line with totals from already declared counties in the state. FEMA officials toured the hardest hit areas in Dodge County on Monday. Citizens are encouraged to check the Dodge County Web Site for additional updates on the anticipated declaration. As soon as information on a declaration is received, links will be listed to register with FEMA and begin the cost assistance process to the public, Meagher said in a press release. If a declaration is received, residents will still need to also register with FEMA even though they have registered with the county through our Report Damage link. Meagher said lakes and rivers from north to south in the county have reached their crest and continue to recede.
