| Bicyclists hit by motorcycle Sat, 19 Jul 2008 18:48:00 CST TOWN OF CALUMET Two bicyclists were taken to Chilton Medical Center for treatment after being hit by a motorcyclist Saturday afternoon in the town of Calumet. At the time of the accident, the bicyclists, identified only as a man and a woman, were participating in a 100-mile bike ride that originated in Kiel and were traveling east on County Trunk Q, about two miles west of St. Anna, according to Fond du Lac County Sheriffs Sgt. Ryan Waldschmidt. The couple was riding side by side at about 2 p.m. when they moved over to the shoulder to let a motorcycle behind them pass and then moved back out into the road. Based on witness reports, the two riders failed to notice a second motorcyclist coming up behind them, Waldschmidt said. The second motorcyclist slammed on the brakes and tried to stop but couldnt and attempted to travel between the two bicyclists, clipping both of them with the motorcycles handlebars, according to Waldschmidt. The two bicyclists were apparently the last ones in the race, were suffering from heat exhaustion and were winded and tired, Waldschmidt said. They were transported by Mount Calvary ambulance to the medical center. Kiel Ambulance also responded to the scene. |
| Baby born in bathroom at Mauthe Lake Campground Sat, 19 Jul 2008 18:40:00 CST TOWN OF AUBURN A West Bend couple got a surprise Saturday afternoon when their baby was born during a weekend camping trip. A woman, said to be in her mid-20s, entered a restroom at Mauthe Lake Campground in the town of Auburn at about 2 p.m., complaining of stomach pains, according to Fond du Lac County Sheriffs Department Sgt. Ryan Waldschmidt. Her screams drew her boyfriend, also in his mid-20s, into the bathroom, where the woman was giving birth, according to the report. The woman gave birth to a baby girl. She told authorities she did not know she was pregnant. Screams from the boyfriend alerted a license registered nurse, who happened to be at the lake. The nurse got the newborn breathing and cared for the infant until an ambulance from Campbellsport arrived, Waldschmidt said. The mother and child were transported to St. Josephs Community Hospital in West Bend. Mauthe Lake rangers also responded to the scene. |
