| EAA Day 5: WomenVenture, Raptor on display Fri, 01 Aug 2008 09:05:00 CST Its sure to be another busy day on the grounds as parking backs up with the additional weekend traffic making its way to AirVenture for a Friday packed full of activities and news. Fridays highlights include the largest gathering of women pilots in the world, WomenVenture, at 10:30 a.m. on AeroShell Square. The pilots will gather for a picture and assorted activities. Its a nice event for the end of the AirVenture week considering the convention kicked off with Women Soar for girls and young women on Monday. Winnebago County, EAA and FAA officials will also dedicate the new Wittman Regional Airport Air Traffic control tower at 9:30 a.m. today at the base of the tower. Raptor fanatics, rejoice EAA Spokesman Dick Knapinski said an F-22 Raptor will be towed onto AeroShell Square today and put on display. It will be the first up-close look AirVenture visitors have gotten since the Raptors first arrived at Oshkosh in 2006 for a quick visit and demonstration. Knapinski also indicated Thursday nights Gathering of the Eagles raised $3.3 million for Young Eagles programs and to support EAA members across the country who offer the flights and other programs for children. The highlight of the fundraiser was the purchase of the one-of-a-kind Ford AV8R Mustang designed specifically for the event. The vehicle sold for $500,000, Knapinski said. |
