| Back to School Fair aids more than 600 families in need Thu, 07 Aug 2008 13:55:00 CST A scissors snipped away the last of Alexandra Schroeders too-long bangs to reveal smiling brown eyes bubbling with excitement. The five-year-old Oshkosh girl had been gushing about going to the Community Back to School Fair all morning, said mom Christine and dad Ken Ogden. Shes all excited, she cant wait to go to school, said Ken Ogden. She was pushing us out the door, saying weve got to go get my school stuff. The Oshkosh couple watched on as CJs Murdock Avenue Salon stylist Carol Hunt trimmed their daughters hair Thursday afternoon inside Fox Valley Technical College as part of the free aid that was offered to 658 families chosen to participate in the annual event. The Community Back to School Fair is the result of efforts made by nearly 20 area nonprofits to fundraise and gather donations year round in order to provide disadvantaged kindergarten through 12th-grade students with clothing, backpacks, school supplies, reading material and more. Going back to school is such a large cost, Back to School Fair co-chairwoman Cathy Koch said. Its really adding up when you get a couple pairs of pants, shirts, supplies we estimated it at $150 per child, so this is a great help for families that are struggling in the community.
